ps3 (and echochrome) ftw ps3 haters have it tough these days. my argument for picking up a ps3 over a year ago went like this: 1) blu-ray will win. 2) psn online play and download is free. win. 3) ps[1-2] compatible. win. 4) sony is supportive of more creative and more casual games - more appealing to a broader audience. win. add to that things like psp integration, easy linux hacking possibilities, sony's greater brand equity in asia over microsoft, and other xbox comparison items. of course, at the time people just looked at me funny when they heard i went the ps3 route. xbox had more games, they said. and that's true, but if we're going to be honest: AAA titles are mostly shit. companies like EA churn out derivative crap as fast as they can, with half-ass concepts, gameplay, and storylines, and more bugs than the mcdonald's i worked at in high school. is it really such an xbox selling point that there are so many more of those on retail shelves for $60 a pop? anyway... a year passed, and what went down: - sony home gets announced (just a game lobby, but still cool) - netflix offers blu-ray. - a game like flOw (MFA project poached by sony) makes it to the playstation store, available for 10 bucks, giving rez serious competition for Greatest Stoner Game Ever. - Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix hits the playstation store for $10 download. the ENGLISH playstation store, no less. - more top-notch AAA titles show up, like the new Ratchet and Clank. - blu-ray pretty much wins. - more small downloadable games like Pixel Junk Monsters show up in the playstation store, causing both me and my girlfriend(!) to forego sleep, repeatedly. so it was already looking pretty good for the ps3. but then i check out the latest update and notice the kind of interactive screensaver art available, like Tori-Emaki. just a cocktail party curiosity, really, but still bodes well for the kinds of projects sony's supporting - and for the future of household entertainment in general, as dramatic as that might sound. then i realized i could get an asian account to get access to all the psn downloads that aren't available in the us, which is actually pretty revolutionary after years of playstation-modding and international shipping to get the craziest japanese games that sadly never make it over here even though they're miles ahead of anything you'd find in a crappy usa mall store. so i do that, fire it up, download echochrome from the playstation tw store, and my jaw hits the floor. i have yet to pick it up. ps3 ftw. 20080227150218 rap infographics collection via infosthetics.com. if i had to pick a favorite, it'd be a dead tie between this one and this one. even better that they all link to youtube videos! if that wasn't enough, then there's this infographic summary of an epic NYT review on Lil Wayne's performance in Newark (from emo+beer = busted career ). 20071115163937 jel's mpc mastery just when you thought it was all delicately sequenced beats. really, though, the most notable thing is the lack of bullshit on his myspace page. i'd pretty much left myspace for dead in the last few months, but stumbling on this kind of thing makes me realize that their format still has a little something when it comes to connecting with artists. 20070717132812 makoto architect i was searching for Makoto, you know, the Japanese drum and bass artist, but instead i came across the some of the most badass algorithmic-design-architecture ever. 20070717132537 the iPhone is a piece of shit, and so is your face. basically replace Nokia E70 in there with Treo 700p, and yeah. whatever, i'll probably still get one when my contract's up. iPhone v2 will be way sweeter anyway. 20070506104332 salary vs. performance team rank by record linked to total salary. 20060911145807 still alive. savvy readers will notice this site hasn't been updated in months. in reality, though, savvy readers probably stopped visiting this site long ago. anyway, here are my excuses for the lack of updates, in no particular order: american cutaneous leishmaniasis an awesome story that i want to document complete with gnarly photos when i get the chance. making moves, making $$ a bay area twentysomething tech industry cliche. girlfriend self explanatory. 20060411030213 tyrrell reports: "Quimbys in chicago is selling my new comic (webb) and they have it up on there website on the front page with all the other new books." www.quimbys.com 20060407162237 first person shooter photoblog i got rounded up into. i'll probably post there as often as i do here. or maybe more if i ever get a decent camera phone. 20060327073523 forgot to mention for the past 2 weeks i´ve been 4-wheeling in a suzuki ignis and drinking imperial in costa rica. pictures forthcoming as soon as ben sends me a dvd when we get back.
