Sky Frostenson is a multidisciplinary media designer originally from Los Alamos, New Mexico. He currently resides in San Francisco and works at Linden Lab -- the creators of Second Life, a 3-d virtual world entirely imagined and owned by its residents. From 2005-2007 he was a part-time instructor in Usability and Interaction Design in the Graduate Division of the Computer Arts: New Media Department at the Academy of Art University.
In 2005 he recieved an MFA from the Arts Computation Engineering program at the University of California, Irvine, where he was also a researcher and teacher affiliated with the UCI Studio Art Department, the UC Game Culture & Technology Lab, the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Cal(IT)2), and the UC Digital Arts Research Network. He holds a B.S. in Psychology and a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Computing in the Arts, both from the University of California, San Diego.
His main project development focus includes iconoclastic iconographies, floating signifiers, eschatological mythologies, and their tactical implementation in a wide variety of neworked cultural software and new media agitprop endeavors, with a special emphasis on gaming and interaction design. He periodically posts projects, links, and other digital detritus at his personal network site, illinest.net. In 2004 he co-founded QUASI-CAUSE Heavy Media Industries in association with Ryan Schoelerman as a collaborative media art development venture.
